A custom fabricated orthosis may take several days to fabricate. It may be made at our facility, or it may be outsourced to a specialized fabrication facility. When completed, your practitioner will fit it to you and give you instructions on its use and care. Your appointment time for fitting may vary, depending on the type of orthosis and the severity of the problem being treated.

Technology

A number of technological advances have swept through the orthotics and prosthetics field in recent years and include the following:

Materials---Lightweight metals and plastics have greatly reduced the weight of orthoses. An orthosis can be easily contoured to the shape of the body needing correction.   A close-fitting orthosis not only provides increased support, but also remains largely hidden from view.

CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design & Computer Aided Manufacturing) Systems--enable orthotists to view computer models before fabricating or redesigning an orthosis, providing accurate fitting and function.
