The most common injury for athletes---whether elite or
part-time---is to the foot. Part of the reason is that the foot is made of many
components: 26 bones and dozens of joints, tendons and muscles. Appropriate footwear can help athletes avoid or lessen foot injuries, and aid in rehabilitation and recovery. Shoes: The most important equipment the athlete uses, and should be sport-specific. Your practitioner can provide shoe modifications to accommodate, correct or compensate for the added stress, wear and tear. Orthoses: Tailored for the athletes specific foot and situation, it works with your shoe to provide cushioning, support and protection. Help With Healing & Rehab--- Modifying a shoe can make it possible to wear appropriate bandaging, bracing or other prescribed devices during the healing process. An orthosis becomes a tool to compensate for a problem, often redistributing pressures so injuries can heal quicker. |
